Feeling Alone and Depressed? - Learn How to CopeAre you or someone you know feeling alone and depressed? There are several reasons why people sometimes end up being lonely and separated from their loved ones. Education, work, divorce, broken relationships, financial losses, etc, are some of the reasons that end up separating people from the rest of the world, especially their friends and family. At times like these, one tends to be left alone to fend for oneself. Now, while some learn to cope and survive under their new circumstances, others may end up feeling sad, alone and depressed. The losses of spouse, child, parent, etc, are extremely painful experiences that leave a huge vacuum that cannot be filled overnight. While going through a crisis like this, it is extremely difficult to not experience depression. Under these circumstances, it is always advisable to grieve, cry, and express one's sorrow, rather than to suppress it and hope it will go away. By suppressing and repressing one's emotions, one is only bottling up within and sending it to the subconscious level. This is not a good sign, mainly because, here, it will not be contained forever, and will manifest itself in various forms like dreams, nightmares, disturbed sleep, fearful thoughts, guilt, etc. Therefore, it is advisable that people who are going through any kind of traumatic experience or feeling alone and depressed talk about their pain, share their grief, cry and generally let out the steam. Once this is done, it will ensure that the mind is not grappling with the same issues over and over again. Further, there are other reasons why one could be feeling alone and depressed. For example, teens who are obese and are too worried about their external appearance tend to stay away from their peers and school because they fear rejection. The predominant thoughts that occupy their mind are that they are too fat, not good looking, not popular enough, etc, and that everyone will laugh at them. These fears will plague them day and night; ultimately, their own fears will convince them to stay away from the rest, making them lonely and depressed. Therefore, it is extremely important for friends and family to guide and advise children and adolescents appropriately, ensuring that their self esteem and self confidence are at healthy levels and that they do not suffer from an inferiority complex. Obsessing about external appearances and worrying about it all the time do not change anything; instead, investing time in a fitness program, joining dance, taking part in aerobics, and having regular exercise will get them into shape in no time, while eating a healthy diet will ensure they do not put on excess weight. While there are several reasons that make people end up feeling alone and depressed, there are an equally good number of healthy measures that will help them overcome loneliness and depression. The key is to identify what works for oneself and then going after it hammer and tongs. One must also remember that being alone is not that bad after all. In fact, some degree of solitude can be extremely peaceful, serene, and provide enough time for one to introspect and work on one's own strengths and weaknesses, as well as mistakes and life goals.
