Depression Hurts But Can Be OvercomeDepression hurts not just mentally and emotionally, but physically, too. While depression is considered to be a psychological disorder where the mind is affected, it is as much a physiological condition, too, because the entire body is affected and people going through depression suffer equally on both grounds. When the mind is unable to cope with its fears, pain, and disturbing thoughts, the physical body too is going through severe stress and other related problems, such as lack of appetite, lack of sleep, aches and pains, and fatigue. Therefore, it is important to realize that while there may not be too many outward manifestations of symptoms both psychological and physiological, people going through depression are experiencing a lot of pain at two levels, and this pain can be extremely traumatic and form the basis for suicidal thoughts. If these are not checked in time, precious lives could end up being lost. Certainly, depression hurts, and the pain and trauma experienced by people going through depression is something that can be described as a long journey through a dark tunnel with no end in sight. Certain childhood events, experiences, etc, become food for thought and the pain and grief caused by these leave long-lasting scars that just refuse to heal, mainly because they are kept within and continue to live and grow there. It hurts to speak about these events, acts, or experiences, but feelings that are repressed will find an outlet and manifest themselves as nightmares, fears, and guilt, all of which have negative connotations and disturb the mind. These disturbing thoughts and emotions end up causing depression and depression hurts, both at a physical and psychological level. The best recourse to overcoming this pain and hurt caused by depression, is to face them and defeat them by taking the right kind of help from the right sources. People going through depression must learn to firstly forgive themselves and those that they feel are responsible for causing that pain.
