Mirtazapine - Depression Drug

How does Remeron work? Mirtazapine or Remeron is one of latest antidepressants that improves the activities of two important neurotransmitters, namely norepinephrine and serotonin; these neurotransmitters influence the moods of people.

This depression medication is said to be effective in treating people suffering from mild-to-moderate forms of depression, people suffering from severe forms of depression, and also people who suffer from panic attacks, anxiety problems, and other related nervousness conditions.

Some of the common mitrazapine side effects include fatigue and general malaise, increased appetite followed by weight gain, GI problems accompanied with constipation, excessive sleep, and dryness of mouth and throat. Some people who have taken Remeron have also been found to be infected by fever, due to an acute drop in white blood cell (WBC) count, which is one of the most serious side effects of Remeron. Therefore, it is very important to consult a family physician or private practitioner find out all about this antidepressant drug before deciding to go ahead with starting on this medicine.

Remeron pills also interact with other antidepressants and is responsible for adverse reactions. For example, if people who are on monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) antidepressants start taking mirtazapine, they could end up suffering from a condition called hyperpyrexic crisis or serotonin syndrome. This is mainly due to the sedating quality or effect of this drug; when combined with other antidepressants, it will further the effects of other tranquilizers or sedatives.

Therefore, while antidepressants promise quick relief from the various symptoms of depression, one must realize that most of these have side effects that are long lasting, dangerous, and harmful in the long run. Prolonged use of any medication can prove fatal to the human body and, under the circumstances, it is advisable to consult a practicing physician who can advice, guide, and direct a person regarding various drugs, their side effects and possible dangers.

One should also seriously consider the use of alternative treatments for depression. Indeed, there are many natural remedies for depression which are safe, non-toxic, and actually very effective.
