Test for Manic Depression

A questionnaire or test for manic depression / bipolar disorder can be administered to diagnose and assess the severity of the condition. Generally, these tests are administered by psychiatrists, psychotherapists, and trained physicians who can interpret the results accurately and decide on an appropriate course of treatment.

Tests administered to identify most mental health conditions include Rorschach Ink-blot Test, which helps diagnose schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. This test includes a series of black and white ink blot patterns that are used to determine the person’s thought processes.

The method of scoring the tested persons on their interpretation of the designs on the ink-blot includes location, determinant, content, popularity, and organizational activity. These are the various classifications on which persons are scored and scores are interpreted by trained psychiatrists or psychologists in an attempt to diagnose the mental condition of the person.

Another test for manic depression / bipolar disorder diagnosis is Draw-a-person test, where the subject is requested to draw and, based on the drawing, the psychologist tries to analyze the mental state of the patient.

Similarly, the Thematic Apperception Test is a test for manic depression which also tries to determine the nature of the tested person’s problem. Here, the person is provided a series of cards with pictures, based on which he or she has to write or narrate a story. Again, the story is interpreted by the psychologist or psychiatrist who determines the person’s state of mind.

All the above-mentioned tests are conducted by trained professionals in a clinical setting.

There are, however, several online self-assessment tests which are now available so that one can access these tests from the comfort of his or her own home. Having said that, it is very important for one to follow all the instructions indicated while taking or administering such tests.

Results generally depend on the nature of answers to every question in the test. These online tests contain about 10-20 questions and will not take longer than 15-20 minutes, provided the internet connection is steady and reliable. Every question comes with four choices to select from. All questions are related to the signs and symptoms of manic depression and need to be answered honestly by the person in order to get an accurate interpretation of their condition.

If the results of the online test for manic depression / bipolar disorder confirm the diagnosis of the condition, the affected person and her or her family must take this seriously and immediately approach appropriate facilities for further diagnosis and treatment plans.
